Back to some description about the Tabernacle. God is sticking to his plan, the Israelites are sticking to...nothing in particular. Chastened after their naughtiness with the golden calf, they are listening again to the lists of instructions, but are they having regrets?

We return to Exodus, and pick up the narrative as it reflects on how Moses has changed. I commented a few days ago on how he was coming to resemble God more and more. Well now he’s beginning to reflect God’s glory: his face shines after being in God’s presence, and he veils it from the people’s sight.
The story stresses that the people willingly gave to build the tabernacle. They’re not all bad! I’m often humbled by people’s generosity and undeserved kindness. We’re such a mixture, all of us, noble motives tangled in with selfishness. No wonder God gets fed up with us.
And so the craftspeople begin to assemble a thing of great beauty. It is lovingly described, and it must have looked utterly beautiful, the one bright colourful sight in the midst of the sandy wilderness.
