Jeremiah is very specific. You will have 70 years in exile. Two generations. That’s all. Then God will will bring you back, he will give you peace and prosperity again. So hang in there - don’t forget God, don’t be tempted to serve the Babylonian gods, your God will rescue you.
Jeremiah speaks powerful words of hope - his poetry moves on to the theme of planting and establishing. For so long he’s been talking about uprooting and destroying, but God promised him on the outset that he would have a message about construction as well as destruction. It has far reaching consequences - a new covenant, a promise that God will write it not on tablets of stone but within people’s hearts.
